Mark's Math Note to Parents and Students
Hello Parents and Students,
Welcome to Mark’s Math Class. We begin class on Tuesday morning, and class will run daily from 8:30 to 9:45. My math class is a Pre-Algebra class. It is a challenging class, but those students that pay attention during class, do the homework every night, and get extra help when necessary will be successful. Homework We will have homework most nights. The students will usually have time during class to get a start on the homework, and they will often be able to finish the homework during class if they work hard. When they do bring homework home, they should never spend more than 1 hour on math homework. (Students will not be successful if they are doing their homework at the last minute -first thing in the morning before class). Most likely it will take less than 30 minutes to complete the homework, but if they are struggling, I expect them to work at it for an hour. If they are still stumped after an hour, they should stop and not get overly frustrated. Most likely, they will not be the only student who has struggled with the problems, and we will take care of things the next day during class. In the end, if they put in the time and effort, I will do everything I can to help them. With that said, those students that do not do the homework will quickly fall behind and there will be little I can do to help them. I will also not put extra time into helping those students that are refusing to do the homework. Again, students must do all homework to be successful in this class. Tests and Quizzes We have tests/quizzes every week or so. They will be announced ahead of time and the students will be well aware of what will be on the test/quiz. If a student performs poorly on a test, they may take a retest within a week. It is the student’s responsibility to meet with me to schedule the retest. I will not force or demand that a student take a retest. All retests will be scheduled during lunch. There are no retakes on quizzes. Extra Help Students are encouraged to get extra help when needed. I am available mornings, during lunch, and after school. I am always willing to provide extra help, but if a student is not doing the homework, I will be less likely to provide extra help. It is the student’s responsibility to see me if they need extra help. I will not force students to get extra help. Behavior My math class is a demanding class and students must be focused and attentive. I will not tolerate disruptive behavior. Disruptive students will be separated from the class and parents will be contacted. |
