Government Contract 34xc125
The government has asked us to develop an emergency system that can transport soldiers out of harms way quickly and efficiently. Unfortunately, due to budget cuts, this system must be constructed from the following materials.
Materials
Testing Phase
Materials
- 5 plastic straws
- 2 balloons
- 5 paper clips
- construction paper
- copy paper
- masking tape
- 2 meters of string
- 1 Transport Cable (the government will supply this during the testing phase)
- 1 soldier (the government will supply you with a soldier prior to the testing phase)
Testing Phase
- One end of a transport cable will be anchored to the wall. The transport cable will be stretched across the room. When the time comes, each team will mount their transport system (which must transport one soldier) to the transport cable. You may only use the materials listed above. The image below provides one way of mounting a transport system to the transport cable. There are many ways to mount your system to the cable. The team that gets their soldier the greatest distance down the transport cable wins the contract. You may not push the transport system. You must use balloon propulsion to move the system down the track. The materials provided are designed to help you maximize the thrust from the balloon. Think about friction. Think about stabilizers. Just think.
